About Michael

Author. Engineer. Storyteller.

Where Silicon Meets Soul

On the windswept High Plains of Wyoming, where the horizon stretches endless and the winters bite with a clarity that demands attention, Michael R. Stute sits with a warm cup of coffee and a question: What happens when the systems we rely on fail, and only the human spirit remains?

Michael is not a writer who guesses at the details. He is a man who knows how the world works—down to the sub-atomic level.

The Architect of Worlds

Before he began chronicling the collapse of civilizations and the rise of alternate histories, Michael spent a career defining the bleeding edge of technology. With a background in mathematics, computer science, and molecular biology, he is a software engineer and AI researcher holding nine patents in machine learning and cybersecurity. He knows how to build a CPU from scratch—literally, designing circuits in logic simulators and translating them block-by-block into Minecraft redstone.

But for Michael, technical precision is nothing without a pulse.

The Historian & The Homesteader

Michael’s novels—whether techno-thrillers or survival sagas like upcoming The Shape We Leave—are grounded in the dirt under his fingernails. He is a historian and a homesteader who believes that “old world” technologies are the only ones that always work. He doesn’t just write about survival; he learns the crafts, studies the history, and lives the reality of self-reliance.

He writes for the reader who craves intelligent fiction. His stories are populated by protagonists who survive not because they are action heroes, but because they possess wit, wisdom, and the grit to endure. For Michael, the ultimate display of the human spirit isn’t just staying alive; it’s maintaining one’s values when the lights go out.

A Life of Exploration

From the Great Plains of Kansas to seven years raising twin children in Panama, and finally to the rugged beauty of Wyoming, Michael explores the world to cement his stories in reality. When he isn’t writing, he is an educator teaching classes on everything from historical spycraft to baking, a musician composing music that “starts in silicon and ends in the soul,” and a voracious reader of 40 books a year.

At the center of Michael’s universe is his wife, Jena—his “cosmic soulmate” with whom he has traveled eons in stardust to find again in this life. Together with their twins adopted from Ghana, eight cats, two dogs, and a flock of chickens, they have built a life defined by curiosity and love.

Michael writes to explore the concept of legacy—the knowledge we pass down to keep the future clean. He writes so that when you close his book, your brain hums with new thoughts, and you look at the world around you a little differently than you did before.

"Legacy is the wisdom of yesterday, engineered for the threats of tomorrow."
